Dear Church Family,

Welcome to the month of March! I hope you had a great LEAP DAY! There are two things today that I wanted to share with you, as a member of our church family:

#1 – SPRING BREAK MISSION TRIP IS ON!!

Our Missions Team has been working tirelessly to make a mission trip connection for Spring Break. At first we thought it would be in Joplin, but that trip has now been set for June 25-29. Next, they turned their energies towards Bastrop, TX, the epicenter of last summer’s devastating wildfires. I am excited to report that God has opened a door, and this trip is now set. We will be sending a team on March 12-16, and we want you to consider being a part of the recovery effort! We will be working with the Volunteer Action Network.
Here are a few details you need to know:

The Missions Team voted to pay all transportation & all lodging for all missionaries. This means all you will need is spending money for your meals during the week. PTL!

Sign-up is beginning immediately. Call the church office (903) 872-7473 to get your name on the list. Also, you can speak to Chuck Burns, the leader of this trip.

This Sunday, March 4, @ 12:00 Noon we will have an interest/planning meeting in the Fellowship Hall. A sandwich lunch will be provided.

Teenagers 16 years & older can go and be a part of this trip.

If you cannot be a part of this trip, be a prayer warrior! God is going to do great things!

#2 – WE MUST BE FAITHFUL TO GIVE!

“To he/she who has been given much, much is required!” There is no doubt that FBC Corsicana has been blessed by God. We are seeing His great work with our own eyes every day. So far in 2012, we have celebrated an incredible Men’s Retreat with 53 men attending. We have enjoyed a fun-filled “FBC Corsicana Talent Show!” We are enjoying new days back in our new building. There is a surge in attendance…since Spreadin’ Out Sunday…we have averaged 706 in Bible Study. And if that’s not enough we have baptized 14 new believers and welcomed 32 into our church family.
NOW…I am sharing this with you because we signed the final paperwork on our building loan yesterday. Our first payment will be due in a month, so it is time for all of us to be faithful to meet these needs. As our slogan reminded us at the beginning of this campaign: “All will not give equal amounts, but we will all commit to equal sacrifice.” Please be faithful to give to our church’s monthly budget. Please be faithful to give in addition to our building loan. We can do this if all ages and all tenures of church membership take our place to do our part.
I am proud to be your pastor!

Dear Church Family,

I pray you have had a great week! I am so proud to be your pastor, and I continue to celebrate the many great things the Lord is doing among our church family. Let me update you on the exciting event coming this Friday evening…

COURAGEOUS THE MOVIE!!

We have talked about it for some time. We have planned, prayed, and prepared, but now it is finally here. This Friday, February 17, at 7:00pm at the Palace Theatre the First Baptist Family will have the chance to view the movie, Courageous! I am so thankful for the Lead Team of men who have worked so faithfully to make this event a reality. We all believe God is ready to move among our families, and we all feel He is going to use this movie to do it!

Things you need to know:

As of the time of print, we have given out 480+ tickets for the movie. The Palace Theater only holds 538 people, so please make sure you have a ticket. Only those with tickets will be able to be seated. (Praise God for the GREAT response!)
The theater doors will open at 6:30pm, so feel free to arrive early to get a good seat.
We have had an extraordinary response to our childcare option. This is wonderful, but it also creates a bit of a burden. Currently we have reservations for over 70 children. Our nursery staff needs help. I believe this help can come in one of two ways:

If you can secure your own childcare, please do. This will reduce the burden upon the church. Please let us know immediately if you can do this yourself.

We need volunteers to assist our nursery workers. If you can volunteer to care for children from 5 pm - 10:30 pm, please let us know ASAP. Your decision to help could be the foundation that makes all the difference for adults that need to attend this movie.

Napoli’s Italian Restaurant has been kind to produce a special “Courageous Meal Deal” for anyone wanting to go out to eat before the movie. Just remember to tell them you are with FBC Corsicana when you arrive. (You will need to pay for your own meal.)
At the completion of the evening, all men will be given the opportunity to sign-up for Courageous Small-Group Bible Studies that will begin the week of February 20. Be looking for this chance to get connected.
Be looking ahead to Sunday night, March 25! This is the evening that any man will be given the chance to publically proclaim his commitment to his wife, children, and God. We will call it, “Stand Up and Be Courageous!"
I look forward to seeing you this Friday. If you have any additional questions, please call the church office at (903) 872-74
Living Courageously for the Lord,

Disciple Now (DNow)

We need your help! Disciple Now is happening THIS WEEKEND!! Our major need is donations and we still need an abundance to feed almost 100 hungry students and leaders! Here are some items you can bring to the FLC no later than this Thursday at 5 pm:

Drinks (2 liter or can) - Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Coke, etc.

Snacks (chips, brownies, candy, fruit, etc.)

You can also opt to give money if you do not have time to go to the store for items or would like to sponsor a student financially for the weekend. Drop off donations in Church Office.
Please be in Prayer! Pray for the students and leaders involved. Thank you so very much in advance for serving our youth in these ways!
Stephen

Courageous Movie Event

The excitement over the Courageous Movie Event is beginning to be very evident among the church. The excitement is justified because Courageous is a movie that has the power to truly change a family. Everyone is encouraged to sign-up and get their free tickets immediately! The movie will show at the Palace Theater on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 pm (Doors open at 6:30 pm). If needed, there will be childcare by reservation only provided at the church (birth through 6th grade).
Also, all men should be aware that Courageous Bible Studies will begin in numerous locations toward the end of the month of February. Sign up after the movie in the lobby of the Palace Theater .....As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Church Office Moving to Basement

We will begin operations in our temporary home on Monday, February 27. We need help with the move on Friday and Saturday, February 24-25. We will be moving books, office furniture, etc. The asbestos abatement is scheduled to begin on March 1.
I am proud to be your pastor!

We are on the threshold of ONE BIG & GREAT DAY in the life of our church and ministry! This Sunday is “Spreadin’ Out Sunday,” and it is going to be an exciting day! Let me connect you with a few details:

Spreadin’ Out into New Space

The first detail is that all Sunday Morning Bible Study classes (Sunday School) will be in new areas. Be sure and connect with one of our greeters to make sure you know where to go! Also, if you are a teacher or department director, please contact your class members to insure they have directions and details. Let’s push for fantastic attendance for our first day back in our remodeled space!

New Circle Drive on the Front of the Building

The new drive-way on the front of the Education Building will be in full swing! Feel free to drop off your passengers for convenience. We will have greeters to assist and welcome you.

We Still Need Your Help to Get the Building Ready

The move into our new space is a daunting task, and we need your help. The building will be open each night until 9:00pm if you can come help. We need women (and men) to assist in cleaning. We need strong men (and women) to assist with the moving of furniture and chairs. Saturday we will be here from 9am-5pm. Please find some time and come assist in every way you can!!!!!! (PS Find Bro. Jeff for work details. He is supervising the effort.)

NEW Sermon Series

To add to the excitement surrounding our BIG day, let me add this information for you. I will begin a new sermon series titled, “Seeing Satan for who he is!” The purpose of the 6-part series is to show you how Satan and his vast demonic forces work. I want you to learn how they try to thwart the purposes of God & His church in today’s world. I want you to realize that God has made full provision for you to fight these powerful forces. I want you to understand that you can be on the side of victory. I want all of us to know that if we are followers of Jesus then we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us!

Sunday Night Celebration

FBC CORSICANA’S GOT TALENT!!!
6pm in the Sanctuary

After our BIG morning of worship & Bible Study, we will certainly be ready to kick back & celebrate! Plan on coming out to our Church-wide Talent Show titled, “FBC Corsicana’s Got Talent!!” I have an inside scoop on the entries!...and trust me…it’s going to be great!

Dear Church Family,

Yes, indeed, it is hot out there! But we might also agree that things are HOT in the Lord’s work in and through the First Baptist Church this summer. Let me let the staff touch on several important things with you…

A Word from Stephen

I am writing today from Mississippi College and our Youth Camp, Centrifuge. I just wanted to let the church family know an update from Day #3 of camp. Today two students gave their lives to our Lord, Jesus Christ and 8 others surrendered their lives to God's call to full-time ministry!!!! Wow! Our God is greater & our God is stronger! We look forward to coming home and sharing with you the exciting things God has done!

A Word from Chuck

I want to give you a couple of quick details about SMAK. First of all we want all children who have completed grades K-6 to register now in the Church Office (Monday-Friday). Your registration price includes 1 cd per family, t-shirt, 2 meals, and a trip to a water park. It’s going to be a great week as our kids will be working on the musical, “Amazing Grace Race!” that they will perform on Sunday evening, July 31 at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Second, I need to let the church know we are in need of scholarships and shepherds. You can help a child participate by giving just $40. In addition, we need adults who will love children and "shepherd" a particular age group throughout the morning’s activities (No advance prep is required). If you can give of your money or your time, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

A Word from Jeff

Wow! I'm still enjoying the memories of VBS. We had a spectacular week. There was so much excitement and energy during our morning celebration. The children received so much attention and love during their visit to the marketplace and the shepherds guided each child to understand how much they are loved by Jesus. I'm so proud of our church family. You sacrificially gave your time and energy to this event. It was my prayer that each child who came would leave knowing that the people of FBC love them and care about them. My prayers were answered in a big way!

In addition, Brother Danny did a superb job of encouraging the kids to give sacrificially to our offering and we came away with $2,001. 26 for the Matamoros Children's Home. We will take a small group down in August (2 thru 6) to deliver the offering, the shoes we have collected and help with some small projects (building beds, painting, etc.). If you are interested in this trip, let me know.

Also, I wanted to make mention of two new additions to our church staff. We have hired Dale Meador to be our new Building Supervisor. Dale and his wife Barbara are long time residents of Corsicana. Dale will be assuming the role being handled so well by Larry Talbert. Larry will be retiring in August. Pray for Dale as he works with Larry in the next several weeks, trying to soak up a vast amount of knowledge.

Dan Brown, who recently joined the church, is joining Juanita Harris on our custodial staff. Dan is married to Melody and they have a young son, Nathan. Dan is excited about the opportunity to serve the Lord here at FBC. Please get to know these new additions, and let them know how much we appreciate their service to the Lord and to this church.

A Word from Pastor Danny

This Sunday evening, June 10, we are going to go in 2 directions. First of all, we will have Sunday evening worship at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. I invite everyone to join us as we will learn together from Proverbs 3:5-6. Second, our Children’s Ministry will be hosting a “Swim Night” at the Jester Park Pool. This event is for all families with children. The pool opens at 6:30 pm. Come and invite your friends. We will have a great time of fellowship. Food will not be provided so bring your own snacks.
Next…Our 3rd trip to Joplin is coming together! We are set to go from July 18-21 (Monday-Thursday). We currently have 33 members of this trip. These include 5 returning Joplin missionaries, 2 members of the staff, 2 from outside our church family, and 14 from our Hispanic Fellowship. Praise the Lord! It’s going to be a great trip!
I am proud to be your pastor!
We will see you this Sunday!!!

Dear Church Family,

I wanted to update you on several things surrounding our ministry. First of all, our 2nd mission trip to Joplin, MO is going very well! We have heard great reports from “Joplin #2!” We now have 20 people on the field, and they have reported that the effort is not about clearing debris...it is about helping people put their lives back together in the name of Jesus Christ. I am proud of these efforts and our missionaries, and I continue to be amazed at the doors God is opening!

This brings me to my 2nd item…A 3rd trip to Joplin is now coming into focus. A number of you have come to me and indicated a deep desire to go. Trip #3 has been set for July 18-21 (Monday-Thursday). If you are interested in being a part of this team, please contact the church office as soon as possible.

Finally, the decorating & preparation for Vacation Bible School is swirling around us at the church. VBS begins this coming Monday, June 20! Please get your child registered! Please speak to Jeff if you desire to be a part of the team! It’s going to be a fantastic week. We need YOU to be a part!

It truly is a Super Summer! We have great things happening in our Children’s Ministry. We have “God-things” happening among our teens, and our church as a whole is being inspired in missions!
I am proud to be your pastor!

Dear Church Family,

The Opportunity Just Keeps Growing!!
I write to you again with great excitement! As you know we just welcomed home Joplin, MO Mission Team #1. They did a great job of testifying to God’s goodness on Sunday night, and now we are gearing up to send Team #2. They will be on mission June 13-17, and at present this team consists of 19 people! PTL!!
**If you have an interest in going on this trip, please contact Alvis Reeves.
I wanted to ask today for 3 things:
First…Let’s be in prayer for this effort and this team. We can all be a part through prayer. (The members of the team are Alvis & Delores Reeves, Steve & Belinda Adams, David Taylor, Ruth Lauden, Lynell McKissack, Darrell Shelton, Risa Marx, Deadra Gage, Christi Tekell, Chuck Burns, Dwayne & Belinda Speer, Dee Anderson, Megan Clagett, Sandy Lewis, Russell Woodall, and Meaghan Ulinik.)
Second…If possible bring the following items to the church so that the team might deliver them to Joplin: Liquid baby formula, diapers, baby wipes, bar soap, shampoo, Hope Springs bottled water (buy at Brookshire’s), washcloths, bath towels, Depends (for adults).
Third…Many of you have asked if you can just give money to support the effort. YES! Simply bring your gift to the church office and Joanna will take care of you.
God bless you, and thank you for your involvement and excitement over these efforts. I hope these e-newsletters have served to keep you connected. I am proud of our church, and I am confident that we are in God’s hands!
**There are rumblings of a potential Trip #3. We will see what happens!!
Whatever it takes….Whatever He asks…Whatever the Cost!

Dear Church Family,

I wanted to keep you updated on the exciting news concerning our missions efforts to Joplin, MO. When I last contacted you by e-mail and spoke to you on Sunday morning, we were simply hoping we could put a mission trip together. Today, I want to announce that our prayers have been answered, and our Mission Team left this morning at 4am. They are now on the ground in Joplin meeting the needs of those devastated by the tornado.. The team consists of Scott Powers, Jenny Higgs, Jerry Eddins, Sharon Eddins, and Tony Watson. (Tony is the "unchurched" gentleman I mentioned that Charissa and I have been praying for.) I met with the team on Monday and within 2.5 hours the team had transportation, a trailer, tools, funding, on-the-field contacts with Field Park Baptist Church and Samaritan's Purse as well as 36 cases of water, baby wipes, diapers, and formula. Talk about God's provision!! I am tremendously excited about the Holy Spirit's lead in this effort. Please join me in praying for the safety and effectiveness of this team. They will return home on Friday.
P.S. If that isn't exciting enough, we now have a 2nd team led by Alvis Reeves that will be departing for Joplin on June 13-17. If you are interested in getting involved in this 2nd trip, please contact Alvis at (903) 875-8727.

In the book A Little Spoonful of Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul Marion Garretty offers this profound quote: "Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible!" How very true! I look forward to this coming Sunday when we will take the opportunity to honor each and every mother in worship. I also look forward to the meaningful Parent Commitment that many of our parents will make to commit to raising their chidlren for the glory of God! I hope you will make every effort to be with us. It will be a great day of encouraging and empowering your family!
See YOU on Sunday,
